Xymena Kurowska is an International Relations theorist interested in interpretive policy analysis. She received her doctorate in political and social sciences from European University Institute in Florence, Italy. She works within International Political Sociology, using social and security theory, psychosocial and anthropological approaches, and relational and interpretive methodologies. She further explores the ethics of academic practice. She has been a grantee of European Foreign and Security Policy Studies Programme and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie senior research fellow at the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University. She also served as the CEU principal investigator in Global Norm Evolution and Responsibility to Protect project, chair of International Political Sociology section at International Studies Association, and academic rapporteur for the EU Cyber Direct project. She is a co-editor-in-chief of Journal of International Relations and Development (2021-24), and sits on the editorial board of PARISS: Political Anthropological Research on International Social Sciences, Global Studies Quarterly, and Global Constitutionalism (2021-24).
She teaches and supervises in the areas of international intervention, global norms, critical security studies, critical geopolitics, political anthropology, knowledge production, and posthumanism. She received the 2023 CEU Teaching Excellence Award.
